Dr. Sin-Hyeog Im has completed Ph.D (1996-2000) at the Department of Immunology, Weizmann Institute of Science and completed postdoctoral training at the Harvard Medical School (2001-2003). He has started his own at the Department of Life Science in the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, 2004-2013). Currently, he works as a Professor in the Division of Integrative Biosciences and Biotechnology/Department of Life Sciences, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), KOREA.
Dr. Im published > 110 articles in peer reviewed journals and obtained 13 patents. He serves as the president of International Scientific Conference on Probiotics and Prebiotics (IPC) and as a member of editor board of several journals including Frontiers in Immunology and Beneficial Microbes. His main research interest is to investigate how our immune system maintains immune homeostasis by balancing between immunity and tolerance. His group have actively investigated the role of transcription factors (Ets1, ID2, NFAT1) and gut microbiome in differentiation of immune cells in health and disease. His group also investigated to identify the factors regulate the generation, maintenance, plasticity of Treg cells at cellular and molecular level under the homeostatic and disease state. Dr. Im's research will provide a close link between basic science and translational approach to treat hyper-immune responses such as autoimmune and allergic disorders.
